The Stackolator |

| The Stackolator is used to demonstrate one of the fundamental
concepts related to building heat loss. It has an incandescent lamp
in the bottom of the vertical pipe that heats the air inside. As
the heat inside rises, it passes out through the holes in the top.
Cooler air rushes into the lower holes to replace the lost air. Using
a smoke pen or smoke puffer, the air movement caused by stack effect
becomes visible. The same effect happens in our homes and contributes
to higher heating bills. The Stackolator is popular in schools, the BPI program,
and at home shows. |
